About the role
As our Public Affairs Manager, you’ll be a driving force to make a focused and tangible impact on our key political and stakeholder audiences.
You will utilise and develop your network to deliver against our key priorities and forge strong relationships as an integral part of the CIPD’s Public Policy team. Our policy advisers and senior managers will work and innovate with you to form new ways of taking our message to relevant political, policy maker and thought leader audiences.
You’ll also partner with other internal stakeholders, particularly the External Affairs team. You’ll write and create briefing materials and formulate other methods to communicate to key audiences the latest in CIPD research and viewpoints.
You’ll raise the CIPD’s profile and extend our reach by regularly attending and organising interesting and relevant events aimed at engaging our network of policy makers and opinion formers.
The role requires intelligent monitoring and understanding of the political scene. Your creativity and foresight will spot new opportunities to support our commercial and strategic objectives relating to public policy. You will also contribute by shaping and delivering our campaign to help tackle youth unemployment Learning to Work.
About you
You are likely a graduate with demonstrable experience and understanding of the public policy arena, including experience of running public affairs campaigns. You have a clear knowledge and understanding of the policy landscape affecting the world of work and a keen interest in the issues touching the working lives of our 135,000 members.
Whilst experience working in Whitehall and Westminster would be an advantage, a keen interest and understanding of current affairs is essential. Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills are essential and previous people management and coaching experience desirable. We also expect strong organisation and campaign planning skills.
