PSNC (the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee) represents England’s 11,650 community (high-street) pharmacies, and is looking to recruit a Public Affairs Officer to help build support for pharmacies across Parliament and the wider health and social care system.
Working as part of our Communications and Public Affairs team, the Public Affairs Officer will draft briefings, monitor Parliamentary business, identify opportunities to drive policy change and help to manage PSNC’s MP engagement work and events. Working closely with pharmacies and other representative organisations, as well as producing resources and content for PSNC’s publications and website, will also be central to the role.
In recent years community pharmacy has had a strong presence across Parliament and the national media, campaigning to do more to help the NHS. Working as part of a small but busy policy team, the post-holder will have a fantastic opportunity to gain experience of high profile national public affairs work, with a varied and challenging workload. The successful candidate will need to have a high-level understanding of UK political systems and processes, and be able to put that to use to deliver effective public affairs strategies.
Educated to degree level, or with equivalent experience, applicants must be able to work within a complex policy environment, and have excellent communications skills and attention to detail. Experience working in public affairs and a network of Parliamentary contacts would be an advantage, but this would also be suitable as a first public affairs role for someone hardworking and enthusiastic about influencing healthcare policy. Applicants will also need a willingness to help with a variety of communications tasks beyond PSNC’s Parliamentary work, where necessary.
