Do you have the confidence and drive to develop a career in public affairs and communications? The General Medical Council is looking for an outstanding and proactive Public Affairs Officer to support our work at the heart of UK healthcare.

The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

Supporting the GMC’s engagement with Whitehall, Westminster and other key stakeholders across the UK, your role will be to ensure that our work is promoted and understood by these groups. You will support our Head of Public Affairs in ensuring we engage in a positive, balanced and well-informed manner. You’ll also have a key role in making sure that other GMC colleagues are aware of political, policy and legislative developments that have the potential to impact on our work.

All in all, you’ll support the GMC’s public affairs activities and communications to improve the knowledge of our organisation on a local and national scale.

Expertise and insight in public affairs and politics is highly desirable, along with any experience working within Parliament or a UK healthcare organisation.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.
