This role is located in the public affairs team within the communications department of a financial services institution. You will contribute to our clients public policy strategy by researching and developing policy recommendations, before taking them out to policy makers.
You will work primarily on projects to build policy positions in the run-up to the 2015 General Election. Other tasks will include desk-based research and written policy briefings for public affairs activities, speeches and events.
Responsibilities
- Monitor policy developments and maintain a working understanding of a range of economic, business and social issues;
- Exploit a range of sources including think tanks and business publications and political research to generate policy positions;
- Work independently on short to long-term research projects, provide updates on emerging findings and written reports;
- Work with colleagues across various teams to incorporate in-house expertise and views;
- Support research partnerships with external partners and economic consultancies.
To be considered for this role, applicants must demonstrate the following
- A good standard of education in economics, politics or related subject;
- Experience working in Parliament, public affairs or a think tank;
- Background knowledge and interest in UK and international policy (ie Middle East, China, EU, South East Asia);
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to research, analyse and present complex information in an accessible way;
- Familiarity with various sources of data: such as UK Government, national and international think-tanks;
- Ability to work with others to tight timetables;
- Ability to draft internal and external policy briefings;
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
