The External and Corporate Relations team is a newly created team which leads the University in both its outward facing activities and our internal corporate relationships and communications. The External Relations staff comprises a mix of specialism – creative content producers, event organisers, fundraisers, recruitment and marketing staff in order to ensure the University is positioned with a distinctive voice and creates impact in terms of both reputation and revenue.
About the role
You will report to the Head of Marketing and will be responsible for providing a high quality public relations and communications service to Abertay University. You will develop and deliver a University-wide external communications/PR plan which will maximise media coverage across the various disciplines represented in the University curriculum (e.g. sport, games and computing, business, engineering, social and health sciences). You will handle media enquiries on a daily basis, assign and brief media spokespeople and liaise between the media and Abertay University colleagues. You will write and distribute press releases and pursue opportunities for coverage as appropriate, building excellent media relationships particularly with our local media to ensure story placement opportunities.
About you
We are looking for an experienced journalist-trained communications expert to join our new External and Corporate Relations Team. You will lead a small team in our messaging with our key stakeholders, i.e. the media, social media and internal customers. Media-savvy with good networks, you must be able to hit the ground running and create and respond to news and stories for the University. We are the leading Modern University in Scotland and have ambitions that need an expert communicator. It’s a fast paced, varied environment in a friendly and ambitious team.
