Support the future success of the Mayor’s Office.

The City of London is quite exceptional. Combining a thriving tourist culture with a world-famous economy, it is also home to thousands of residents. As such, the City of London Corporation faces a unique challenge in representing the city’s strengths to both domestic and international audiences.

The Lord Mayor plays an important part in this multi-faceted task. Representing both the civic city (which includes the Corporation, plus our associated livery companies and charities) and the business facade, he or she acts as a spokesperson for the city’s financial, social, residential and business capabilities. However, with each Mayor having just one year to fulfil these duties, it is necessary to make plans for continuity. A succession structure is therefore in place, with two elected Sheriffs – the Aldermanic Sheriff and The Senior Alderman Below The Aldermanic Chair (SABTAC) – shadowing the Mayor, with each in line to ultimately succeed as Mayor (if elected).

In order to help us align Mayoral office objectives, you will play a crucial role in continuing programmes of work and enhancing existing relationships. Working to support the Mayor, SABTAC, Sheriffs and other senior colleagues, you will help us design and develop the Mayoral Programme and theme, ensuring it is achievable. Working with the line of succession, you will ensure these goals are being adopted by future Mayors, reporting on how the SABTAC is progressing in their agenda and collaboratively planning the Lord Mayor’s Show. Taking responsibility for providing administrative and ‘influencing’ support to the SABTAC, your networking skills will prove invaluable.

To thrive in this role, you will have excellent project management and networking skills. Coming from a background in which you provided discreet counsel to a senior figure (such as in a corporate organisation or Ministerial private office), you will be a strategic thinker with good multi-tasking skills, and the capacity to combine tact with political sensitivity. And in turn, we can offer you the chance to be part of a dynamic office, where your guidance will be implicitly valued. Join us, contribute to the making of modern-day history.
