Use your people management skills, eye for detail, big-picture thinking and love of London politics to inspire confidence in the governance of the world’s greatest city.

We are looking for a new senior manager to lead a team of seven staff in the London Assembly’s Scrutiny Team. The team supports the Assembly to hold the Mayor and GLA group of organisations to account by generating new analysis and understanding key issues for London and developing policy and recommendations. It also ensures that Londoners’ voices are heard in London’s city government.

In a typical year, your team will plan the work programmes for four committees, prepare briefings for formal meetings in public and support site visits. It also undertakes or commissions primary research via surveys or focus groups to ensure our investigations add value. There will be a variety of published reports to draft and gain cross-party agreement on, and strategies to develop to ensure effective stakeholder engagement. It will be down to you to see that every piece of work is timely, accurate and makes an impact.

An inspiring, resourceful people manager, you will know exactly how to motivate the team to provide an exemplary service to politicians. Leading people from various public, private and third sector backgrounds, you don’t need to have worked in a similar role yourself. However, you must be effective in dealing with a wide range of complex, high-profile political issues. Many of them are sensitive, so you should also be an astute political thinker.

If you think you have the right combination of skills, experience and passion for London politics, we want to hear from you.

London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels. We would therefore particularly welcome applicants from minority and ethnic groups who are under-represented in this sector.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan, childcare voucher scheme and a career average pension scheme.
