Our client is a leading trade association for its sector recognised for its powerful campaigning and influence within government.

They are currently looking for an experienced Policy Advisor to lead their policy activity on consumer product issues, influencing and shaping the trade association's position on key strategic campaigns.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and delivery of policy on all areas relating to consumer product issues, including managing two major Action Groups. You will need to be able to demonstrate strong technical expertise and experience, with excellent knowledge of non-food consumer product issues and chemicals.

Key responsibilities:

Campaigns and Policy:

  • Responsibility for the development and delivery of trade policies relating non-food consumer products including specialist lines;
  • Responsibility for the work programmes and Action Groups through the development of detailed submissions responding to relevant public consultations and related external engagement;
  • Liaise across with colleagues to ensure that policies are co-ordinated across the business.

Communications:

  • Produce briefing papers, policy documents, newsletters and other written communications;
  • Make presentations to industry and stakeholder conferences and meetings;
  • Prepare responses with members to UK and European Government consultations.

Stakeholder relations:

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships within the UK government, relevant regulatory authorities, other trade associations and commercial organisations;
  • Work closely with the Corporate Affairs team to develop relationships with relevant political contacts.

Candidate requirements:

  • An excellent communicator with a strong knowledge and understanding of current relevant policy and emerging legislation relating to consumer products;
  • Credibility to work alongside senior management and to build strong relationships;
  • A trusted and pro-active team player, supporting team colleagues in driving a culture of constant improvement.
