The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

I am currently recruiting for a Senior Policy Adviser (financial services) with the UK’s financial regulator. You will:

  • Leading pieces of policy work related to payment services and retail banking;
  • Providing technical and policy advice on the application of the existing Handbook rules, as well as aspects of the payment services regimes;
  • Contributing to EU-level policy discussions with stakeholders such as the European Commission and EBA as necessary;
  • Contributing to industry liaison work;
  • Researching and analysing industry developments (e.g. new products and business models) and advising on their regulatory treatment, in collaboration with our General Counsel Division.

You will have:

  • Practical knowledge and experience of the retail banking industry (ideally related to payments services) or other financial services regulatory policy;
  • Experience of policy-making considerations and disciplines, including the ability to think creatively, to make logical and timely decisions, and to cut through complexity and see the bigger picture;
  • An ability to analyse complex information or issues, to draw reasoned and logical inferences from quantitative and/or qualitative data, and to reach robust and practical conclusions;
  • An ability to identify issues raised by new business models, which may set precedents for regulation, and to collaborate with legal advisers to make recommendations on this;
  • An ability to identify and manage key stakeholders, building rapport and constructive relationships, and demonstrating political nous;
  • An ability to make a strong personal impact, to take a collaborative and flexible approach, to persuade with well-reasoned arguments and challenge where appropriate.
