Job Description:

One of the leading integrated communications consultancies in the UK is looking for an entrepreneurial public affairs professional to head up their office in Wales. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the division and providing strategic counsel and advise to clients to deliver effective and creative results. Whilst the focus for the role is on Wales-based clients, there will also be opportunity to work across the UK and Global networked accounts.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leads the division and is connected to other teams across the business to deliver integrated communications solutions for clients;
  • Develops and delivers commercially astute, insightful PA strategies and solutions which delight our clients by leading the team and leveraging their capabilities, empowering and supporting them in the delivery of their roles;
  • Develops and maintains strong client relationships which result in long term benefit;
  • Builds, manages and develops the team using progressive people management techniques, involving and consulting them to secure their buy-in and paying attention to their career development, ensuring the optimum combination of skills to get results for clients;
  • Proactively identifies new business opportunities and actions them by tailoring and leading the best team to respond, converting them to revenue;
  • Develops an in-depth knowledge of the organisation and uses it to identify opportunities to work with and learn from the global network to benefit the client portfolio;
  • Monitors global trends in business and analyses potential impact on the organisation, its clients and practice areas to identify potential areas of long- and short-term business growth;
  • Assists in building competitive propositions, assessing the broader competitive landscape for opportunities and creating solutions;
  • Assists with the creation of the business plan for their area, analyses and evaluates opportunities and difficulties and makes commercially astute decisions, taking the required action for the overall benefit of the business;
  • Develops and maintains an active network of professional contacts for the commercial benefit of the company;
  • Continually develops own professional competencies and knowledge to ensure skills and experience remain ahead of the curve, sharing this knowledge with others to enhance their development;
  • Day-to-day direction of client accounts as appropriate;
  • A range of account and budget responsibilities in local markets, with some international account relationships;
  • Political and issues monitoring where appropriate;
  • Encourage and develop all team members;
  • Initiate and lead new business opportunities/initiatives, production of plans for new business pitches and involvement in new business pitches;
  • Financial reporting to PA and UK Accounts Department.

Essential skills:

  • Significant Public Affairs experience, ideally within a consultancy;
  • Ability to think strategically;
  • Deep understanding of Welsh political scene and wider UK national political issues;
  • Proven media relations skills;
  • Proven track record in driving new business;
  • Confident relating to clients and colleagues at all levels;
  • Excellent writing ability;
  • Welsh language – highly desirable
