The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK and Ireland. Established nearly 50 years ago, we have grown to 16,000 members. As we develop, we are recruiting a Parliamentary and Public Policy Advisor. You will work four days per week, remotely from our Bury Head Office, but be able to represent BABCP across our operating environment, occasionally in person when conditions permit.

This new post will provide the BABCP Board and senior leaders with a fuller understanding of the different political and health service landscapes of the individual nations of the UK and the Republic of Ireland. You will work to develop policy and strategy to meet our changing needs and help us ensure we remain relevant to our growing membership, and to support our overriding aim to further CBT. You will inform the Board and senior leaders of key differences and developments in relevant healthcare policy and legislation across the five nations and have an opportunity to participate in a variety of policy functions. You will support, and sometimes lead, in a role with room for future development.

You will be an enthusiastic individual, keen to manage projects while collaborating and building networks in the dynamic mental health environments across UK and Ireland. You will advise and support Board Trustees and senior leaders to assist their understanding of these operating environments as relevant to BABCP. You will liaise and work closely with other senior leaders as well as ministerial officers, educational leaders, and other health organisations. You must be capable of growing sustainable networks in this new and important external facing role.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have demonstrated previous experience of working in a similar role;
  • Be educated to degree level in a related subject;
  • Have professional experience and understanding of the workings of government and health authorities in the UK and Ireland;
  • Be able to develop organisational strategy, and provide strategic advice and reports at senior leadership level;
  • Possess excellent all-round communication skills that help build networks and influence decision-makers.

Interviews may be conducted in person, online via video conference or both.

This position is based remotely from our Bury Head Office, but you must be able to attend the office as and when required to meet business need. You will be part of an energetic and committed team of more than thirty staff, currently working remotely with some office use returning.
