I am currently recruiting for a Policy Adviser in the environment/climate change sphere.

  • Together with the Policy Manager, develop, implement deliver a strategy for the organisation’s policy and public affairs activity. Oversee and manage high profile policy projects and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these projects using performance indicators and outcome measures;
  • Support the research and drafting of policy positions across a broad range of issues, with focus on energy, climate change and sustainable development; develop policy briefings, reports, and technical documents;
  • Provide information and analysis on stakeholder activities, support and identify opportunities for stakeholder engagement and alert advise the secretariat on threats and opportunities arising on specific issues;
  • Undertake first class monitoring and research to proactively stay abreast of political developments and changing energy, climate change and sustainable development policy;
  • Ensure the Alliance’s policy and public affairs work is of a high standard and in line with strategic priorities.

You will have:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in public policy, public affairs, public relations, or political work - preferably with international stakeholders;
  • Good knowledge of international energy, environment and climate change policy and processes, and the wider political landscape (desirable);
  • A strategic thinker and effective networker and influencer, with a track record of developing, managing and delivering successful influencing campaigns;
  • Proven research skills and experience of drafting policy documents and reports, and ability to translate complex technical and scientific concepts for the public and policymakers. Some technical knowledge of air pollution and climate change policy and science is desirable;
  • Experience of working in a membership environment with both executive and non-executive officers, and experience of briefing and advising senior members of staff;
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to deliver complex projects to deadlines;
  • Experience of managing senior and complex stakeholder relationships;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to act sensitively where there are different viewpoints which must be respected to make progress.
