But improving the UK takes all of us. We need people from every part of society to join our profession – a true diversity of backgrounds and experience from every walk of life. The best policy professionals are problem-solvers, collaborators, communicators, and people with an eye for detail. If this sounds like you, take on the challenge and start an exciting and rewarding career in policy.

Role details

Policy Advisors develop expertise in a policy area and provide technical advice to assist in policy development. You’ll also research and analyse a wide range of evidence and data to inform policy in your area and resolve complex issues.

In the course of your work, you’ll draft policy submissions and engage with parliamentary activity. All your projects will be underpinned by good working relationships with a range of government departments and senior stakeholders.

Your experience and skills

To be successful in this role you’ll need strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to consider a problem from all sides, research issues in depth and interpret data effectively.

Good policy advisors are also highly self-motivated and innovative. You should have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and take a genuine interest in the current political landscape.
