Carers Trust is the leading UK-wide charity for the nation's 7 million unpaid carers. Together with our Network Partners, we provide support, information, advice and services for anyone caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend.

Eight out of ten carers struggle with loneliness and isolation as a result of their caring responsibilities. The pandemic has intensified many of the challenges that carers were already experiencing, and the impact will be felt for some considerable time to come. Carers Trust developed a new programme aimed at supporting unpaid carers to access respite and is launching an appeal to fund the programme.

About The Job

We're recruiting for a Policy and External Affairs Officer. You'll be:

  • Empowered to come up with exciting policy and parliamentary ideas;
  • Supported to make carers' voices heard;
  • A vital part of an amazing team.

You'll work as part of our UK policy and external affairs team and with colleagues across Carers Trust, in this important role which will help us ensure that the voices and experiences of unpaid carers, especially young carers and young adult carers, are heard and acted on in Westminster, Whitehall and beyond.

You will play a key role in helping us increase and improve Carers Trust's status at the forefront of public policy, media and other external-facing debate at such an important time for unpaid carers. A key part of this will be your work with MPs and Peers, including through a new All-Party Parliamentary Group on young carers and young adult carers, with our network of carer organisations and with unpaid carers themselves.

You will also get to work closely with colleagues across the UK, including in Scotland and Wales, and play a key part in exciting UK-wide work like our vibrant annual Young Carers Action Day.

We understand you will have experience and knowledge in other areas, we're not expecting you to know all about carers and the services that support them, so please don't let this be a barrier to applying.

Carers Trust London staff are working a hybrid model, mixing working from home and from our office on Union Street, London SE1 – subject to government guidance, staff needs, and backed up by risk assessments.

Fixed Term Contract for 3 years.
