At the HTA, it’s crucial the needs of our members are accurately represented and understood by governments, parliamentarians, and policy influencers across the whole of the UK. This newly created role will be key to achieving this, by developing new and building on, existing relationships to deliver our public affairs and policy agenda.
Reporting to the Director of Policy and Communications, you will manage a team of two and be responsible for delivering strategic engagement programmes within the political and policy arena. You will be required to create collaborative policy proposals, that carefully consider government policy and HTA member needs alongside the wider industry approach.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be excellent at building collaborative relationships internally and externally, with good project management skills and a thorough understanding of Westminster, Whitehall, and devolved governments.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in public affairs and policy, ideally having worked within Parliament, in Whitehall, a trade association or a campaign organisation;
- Previous line management and budget management, with good project management skills;
- A critical and strategic thinker, with strong analytical skills and the ability to digest complex information to key salient points.

This role is an office-based role, but we are currently operating a flexible home-office system, with a minimum of 2 days a week in the office.
About HTA
2020 created new gardeners and the HTA campaign to ensure garden centres were classed as essential retailers throughout the COVID-19 restrictions has increased the profile of the £28bn horticultural and landscaping industry.
The HTA have 1500 members which include garden retailers, growers, landscapers, and suppliers to the garden industry. As one of the largest membership organisations the HTA have run the National Garden Gift scheme since 1962, this provides consumers with a UK wide scheme encouraging both new and existing gardeners to visit garden centres and retail nurseries.
