We are looking for an experienced consultant or a senior consultant (dependent on suitable experience) to join our friendly and sociable London team. You should have demonstrable experience in a political environment, such as working for an MP, in-house, a think tank, a relevant trade association role or a public affairs consultancy. Tech and health policy are our core sectors at present so any experience or interests in these areas would be welcome. More important, however, are your skill sets and attitude; we are looking for a self-starter who will fit in well with the team and has a keen interest in policy detail, whilst wanting to get out and interact with clients, stakeholders and industry contacts. Project management skills will be important for this role too. An active participation within party politics, experience in analysing data or engaging with the media would be welcome, though not essential.

Your primary role will be to support and manage (either from the start or in the near future) a range of accounts. The exact accounts would be dependent on your interest and experience, but there will be a focus on tech or health policy (or both). We have flat hierarchies and with the right attitude and skillset, you can expect to take a lead on workstreams within accounts as well as cross-company projects. Options to help mentor more junior members of the team will also be considered, should the fit be right.

We work for a mixture of well-known corporates, innovative start-ups, SMEs, charities and trade associations. This will allow you to directly take part in high-profile and often challenging policy areas such as innovation in the NHS, online harms, child food poverty, or helping to get emerging sector representative bodies off the ground. As a part of small team you can expect to take part in the full spectrum of public affairs services, including providing strategic advice to clients and team members, looking for growth and new business opportunities, conducting research and monitoring, overseeing briefings and reports, assisting with event organisation and supporting engagement programmes with government, parliamentarians, civil servants and other relevant groups. With the right experience, you can further expect to be involved in media engagement.

The successful candidate will likely have:

  • A strong understanding of UK Parliament, politics, procedure and policy;
  • Some project management and/or account management experience;
  • A degree in a relevant field (Politics, International Politics, History, Public Policy) is desirable but not essential;
  • Proven experience in a political environment, ideally from a consultancy, thinktank, trade association or parliament;
  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral;
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively;
  • Solid work ethic with a can-do attitude;
  • Participation/interest in party politics is desirable but not essential;
  • Interest in tech and/or health issues is desirable but not essential.
