I am recruiting for a Public Affairs Lead (sole counsel) with a global professional Services firm in London.

You will:

  • Lead development, delivery, and regular assessment of the firms UKIMEA public affairs strategy and annual plans;
  • Deliver annual programmes of public affairs activity that achieve the public affairs strategy and that support business priorities in the UK. Activity will be both planned and reactive and will include organising and preparing for private meetings and larger events; authoring papers and statements for issue to government bodies, trade associations and other industry initiatives;
  • Brief the region chair and senior leaders on relevant political developments and act as a ‘broker of intelligence’ by sharing insights on policy debates and potential regulatory changes;
  • Prepare presentations, notes and speeches for meetings and events with politicians and senior figures within the Civil Service;
  • Advise our region chair and senior leaders on options for developing stronger relationships with key political figures and bodies and for communicating our thought leadership effectively within government;
  • Liaise closely and regularly with the businesses global affairs lead and with regional marketing and communications colleagues to share information and to plan, coordinate and jointly deliver activity spanning the public affairs, marketing and communications spectrum.

We are looking for:

  • Substantial experience in public affairs at a national level, ideally within a professional services, advisory membership body or think tank;
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of the functioning and social norms of the UK political system, the remit of devolved governments, and the progress (to date) of English devolution;
  • Strong skills in horizon scanning and in identifying opportunities for an organisation to participate in public policy discussions as well as experience in recognising the risks associated with doing so;
  • Experience in advising senior business/ organisational leaders as they prepare for meetings with senior political figures and their teams;
  • Ability to distil lengthy political documentation into brief, clear and factually accurate summaries, delivered both verbally and in writing;
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, including advanced understanding of English grammar and usage;
  • Skills and experience in the use of political monitoring tools and client relationship management systems.
