Westminster Forum will hold a breakfast meeting with David Gauke, Financial Secretary to HM Treasury. The event will be hosted by Aberdeen Asset Management.
David Gauke MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury
David Gauke was appointed Financial Secretary to the Treasury on 15 July 2014.
David has been the MP for Hertfordshire South West since 5 May 2005. David was a member of the Treasury Select Committee from February 2006 until he was appointed as a Shadow Minister for the Treasury in June 2007. As a Shadow Treasury Minister, he focused on tax policy, including matters such as tax simplification, corporation tax reform and HM Revenue and Customs. David was previously Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury until his appointment to Financial Secretary to the Treasury in July 2014.
David lives in Chorleywood with his wife, Rachel, and their three sons. He was born in 1971 and educated at Northgate High School, a state comprehensive in Ipswich. He read law at St Edmund Hall, Oxford University. After a year working as a Parliamentary researcher, he attended Chester College of Law before becoming a trainee solicitor. He qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and worked for a leading City firm before entering Parliament in 2005.
David’s responsibilities as Financial Secretary are as follows:
- deputising for the Chancellor at ECOFIN
- EU Budget and wider EU issues
- strategic oversight of the UK tax system including direct, indirect, business, property and personal taxation
- corporate and small business taxation
- European and international tax issues
- departmental minister for HM Revenue and Customs and the Valuation Office Agency
- overall responsibility for the Finance Bill
- personal savings and pensions policy.
- the Government Actuary’s Department
