Michael Page Policy is working with the Residential Landlords Association to appoint two Policy Officers to develop and promote the policy work of the Association across the UK.

The RLA is a membership organisation representing over 50,000 landlords in England and Wales. They provide a range of services to their membership including documents, guidance, advice, training and accreditation, as well as representation at every level of government.

These posts have a flexible location – ideally candidates will be available to work in Manchester and Cardiff, however there are flexible options available for the right candidate, regardless of location.

Job Description

These posts will assist with developing and promoting the policy work of the Association to members and key stakeholders, including government, in the private rented sector.

Candidates should be interested in either Economics, Finance and Tax or Housing Regulation and Enforcement Housing policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead aspects of policy development for the Association;
  • Ensure that the Association's policy work is informed by the views and experiences of landlords, agents and tenants;
  • Draft papers, reports, briefings and other policy related material;
  • Draft responses to government and other consultations relevant to the private rented sector;
  • Identify policy issues and campaign opportunities;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with policy counterparts on other organisations and think tanks;
  • Represent the Association at meetings with external stakeholders, partners and working groups as required;
  • Revise and keep up to date the Association's policy documents;
  • Feed in to the production of the Association's media work as necessary;
  • Share and publicise the Association's views and policies with government and stakeholders;
  • Review the policy content of the Association's written output, including media releases and campaign materials;
  • Initiate and manage projects;
  • Share relevant information and policy work with colleagues;
  • Provide policy advice to the Association's directors, staff and members;
  • Organise meetings between directors/senior staff and key stakeholders including government;
  • Provide support for any other policy and research activities as required by the Policy Manager.

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a policy related role.

Other skills and experience will include:

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage a complex workload;
  • Networking and influencing skills;
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in one or more of: Government and politics, Housing policy, Welfare policy, Environmental policy, Economic policy;
  • Degree or equivalent academic qualification in relevant subject area.
