My client is a professional qualification body with a global reach. They are looking for a Public Policy Researcher, sitting beneath the Public Policy Manager in the Communications team.

You will contribute to the organisation's public policy strategy by researching and developing policy recommendations for the Chief Executive, senior members and staff. You will need an awareness of the issues that impact on economic and business growth and an ability to express your recommendations in clear concise writing. As the organisation has an international remit, knowledge of international politics would be very advantageous.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring policy developments and maintaining a working understanding of a range of economic, business and social issues (e.g. Tax, skills and social mobility, public finances, business and economic growth);
  • Assist in the development of public policy content by exploiting a range of sources including the organisation's library, think tank and business publications and political research;
  • To work independently on short to long-term research projects, providing updates on emerging findings and written reports;
  • Communicating the work of the public policy team to senior internal and external stakeholders, working with colleagues in member and corporate communications, and the media team;
  • Attending policy events and meetings on key topics and developing responses;
  • To work with colleagues across the organisation to incorporate in-house expertise and views;
  • To support research partnerships with external partners.

Competencies:

  • Good standard of education (ideally economics or politics);
  • Background knowledge and interest in UK and international policy (i.e. Middle East, China, EU, South East Asia);
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to research, analyse and present complex information in an accessible way;
  • Ability to draft internal and external policy briefings;
  • Familiarity with various sources of data: UK Government, national and international think-tanks, etc;
  • Ability to work with others to tight timetables. Flexibility in meeting changing work priorities, for example ad-hoc analysis when requested;
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
