The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Brook Lyndhurst is a leading research company that specialises in environment and sustainable development, focusing particularly on individual and business behaviours. We provide a full range of social research and analytical services to government and the private sector across the UK.

We are looking for a talented, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join us for a four month (minimum) full-time paid internship. The successful candidate will be working as a Research Assistant, providing research and analytical support to project teams across a number of our core specialisms. If you are committed to sustainability and looking to build your research experience within a close-knit and passionate team, this could be the role for you. We would particularly encourage applications from candidates with experience of conducting research into food, energy, recycling or resource efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting primary and secondary research (both qualitative and quantitative) to build data and evidence;
  • Undertaking analysis of data and evidence;
  • Contributing to the drafting of client reports;
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of client presentations;
  • Administration – a mix of tasks associated with the running of a small, fast-moving business.

All candidates will need:

  • A strong academic background, intellectual curiosity and an interest in sustainable development;
  • A willingness and ability to learn new research skills;
  • Tenacity in tracking down information and undertaking primary research;
  • A good working knowledge of spreadsheets or databases (e.g. Access and SPSS);
  • An aptitude for working with both numerical data and qualitative information;
  • An ability to communicate analytical findings in written material;
  • Strong verbal communication skills;
  • Enthusiasm, adaptability, resourcefulness, common sense.

The successful candidate can expect substantial learning opportunities, a business-like but fairly informal working environment, and an opportunity to work with some of the leading researchers in this field.
