The CIPR Public Affairs Group has launched the Douglas Smith Lifetime Achievement Award. This new Award will honour a CIPR member who has worked in public affairs for at least twenty years and has in the view of the CIPR Public Affairs Committee made a considerable achievement to the industry.

The closing date for nominations is Tuesday 30th September. The Award ceremony will take place at the CIPR PA Christmas Charity event in December.

This Award is launched in honour of the late Douglas Smith who founded the Government Affairs Group in 1987, which subsequently became the CIPR Public Affairs Group. Simon McVicker, Chairman of CIPR PA, said: “Doug himself did so much to establish the Industry in the UK that the Committee felt it would be a fitting memorial to a great man to a create an award to honour others who have made a great contribution to public affairs in their careers.”

People are encouraged to nominate practitioners they consider worthy of this new prestigious Award. Please send nominations to Simon McVicker and add 300 to 500 words on why you believe this person should be considered for the Award.

Criteria that could be considered in any nomination are:

  • Showing the highest professional standards throughout their career;
  • Developing the Industry in a positive and constructive way;
  • Encouraging people in the industry through mentoring and training;
  • Been a leading spokesperson for the Industry both to Parliament and the media;
  • Brought about major change for the good through public affairs campaigning.
