CAMRA is a not-for-profit consumer group with over 165,000 members that has been operating since 1971. Our vision is to have quality real ale and thriving pubs in every community. We are a volunteer-led organisation, with a small, enthusiastic and committed staff team of forty people working at our Head Office in St. Albans where this role will be based. Our membership is growing at 9% per annum.

Job Purpose
To manage and deliver campaign activity seeking to engage CAMRA members and the wider public in our efforts to secure policy change to support well run pubs and real ale breweries. To manage and deliver CAMRA activity at the political party conferences and other external events. The Campaigns Manager will also line manage CAMRA’s Campaigns Assistant who provides support for the whole Public Affairs team.
Key Responsibilities and Functions
Job Specification:
- managing activity to secure public and media support for CAMRA’s campaigning activities;
- managing CAMRA’s activity at the political party conferences and other external events;
- managing the campaigns and information content of the CAMRA website;
- managing provision of information and ensuring the best use of this information within CAMRA;
- to ensure member and public queries are responded to in a helpful and efficient manner;
- developing and supporting local campaigns run by local CAMRA branches and community groups;
- work with the Head of Public Affairs and Senior Campaigns Manager to provide support on CAMRA’s Parliamentary lobbying activities;
- developing online and printed campaign publications, briefings and campaign micro sites to communicate CAMRA’s campaigning work including managing design company commissions;
- work with the Head of Public Affairs to manage externally commissioned research projects;
- assist CAMRA’s Press Manager in briefing CAMRA spokespeople for media;
- producing detailed case studies to support current campaigns and to respond to media requests;
- represent CAMRA at meetings and other events;
- to act as a general campaigns manager when required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Demonstrable interest in campaigning;
- Experience of leading or being part of a successful campaign whether paid or unpaid;
- Experience of organising events;
- Aptitude for producing online and offline communications, campaigning material and briefings;
- Highly articulate with excellent literacy skills;
- Proven paid experience of working in a role involving substantial campaigning or lobbying activity;
- Degree level education.
Desirable
- Experience with website content management systems;
- Experience of working with volunteers;
- Experienced researcher;
- Passion for community pubs and real ale.
This role will require regular attendance at meetings and out of hours’ events in the evenings and occasionally at weekends for which there will be time off in lieu given.
Salary
£28,000 - £32,000 plus benefits
24 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure days
