The position of Communications Officer in the Europe Office of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a full-time position located in Paris, with an initial appointment term of one year (renewable).
It carries a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with the successful applicant's experience and qualifications. As an integral member of the IMF’s Europe Office, the incumbent will execute a range of tasks under the guidance of the IMF Europe Office Director (Paris and Brussels) and the Assistant to the Director for Communication in the Paris Office.
The main duties and responsibilities include:
- Support a wide range of IMF’s communications and outreach activities in Europe;
- Assist in the coordination of messaging, complex communications across a number of audiences, and outreach in Europe on sensitive key issues for the IMF;
- Help conceptualize, implement, and organize outreach events and initiatives as part of the communications team;
- Work as part of the communications team on communication products, including blogs, a regular Newsletter to external audiences, a daily news analysis of key European media, and contribute to social media activities, including Twitter and the Office’s Website;
- Support outreach by monitoring media coverage; opinion-makers from key IMF stakeholders, including parliamentarians, civil society, academia, and think tanks;
- Manage an early warning system, with the objective to provide timely intelligence and inside assessments on Fund policies and how the Fund is being perceived in Europe;
- Help maintain a contact database, and help broaden the network of contacts in the media, academia, CSOs, unions, and legislatures (European Parliament and national parliaments);
- Support outreach efforts by senior Fund staff and management in the region.
Requirements:
- Extensive background in communications, media, governmental relations, or public affairs;
- The candidate should have a strong grasp of economics and finance, and should ideally possess some work experience in international organizations, European institutions, or related field;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Flexibility to work outside regular office hours when needed;
- Strong interpersonal skills are also expected, and the candidate should be able to interact effectively and tactfully with senior external interlocutors and officials of the IMF;
- Very good organizational and work management skills, including the ability to multi-task under time pressure;
- A high degree of personal initiative, creativity, resourcefulness, and independent decision-making will be critical, as well as sound judgment in handling confidential information;
- The candidate should be fully fluent in English, and have worked in an English language environment for a number of years. Excellent English writing skills, and a working knowledge of French will also be important;
- Proficiency in relevant information technology and software applications is expected, including web design and content maintenance, social media, presentations, and internet tools;
- The candidate should have several years of relevant work experience, a Masters-level or equivalent university degree, and an academic background in communications or international relations;
- The candidate must be legally entitled to work in the European Union.
