The PIRC was established in 2013 and is responsible for carrying out independent investigations into incidents involving the police and independently review the way the police handle complaints from the public.

The Police Investigation & Review Commissioner is currently seeking to recruit a Communications Officer to join her team in Hamilton.

As a Communications Officer reporting to the Head of Communications, you will assist in the planning and delivery of the communications strategy, both internally and externally.
You must be able to demonstrate experience of the following specific duties (see candidate information pack for full details):
- To draft and distribute press releases and respond to enquiries from the media during the working day and out of hours;
- To provide media support, when necessary, to staff in the Investigation, Review and Corporate teams;
- To develop and promote the work of the PIRC using digital media;
- To develop and update content for the PIRC website.
Successful candidates should have a good general education with a qualification in communications or marketing and proven experience working within a communications environment in a similar role. The successful candidate must also have proven experience of delivering a range of high quality communications materials, including website, reports and in-house newsletters. You will be required to be on-call, on a rota basis, and be prepared to work unsocial and extended hours where required. An additional remuneration allowance is payable for this work.

STATUS - Fixed Term - 18 month initially
HOURS OF WORK - Part Time (15 hours) with on-call duty on a rota basis
