Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

The PIRC was established in 2013 and is responsible for carrying out independent investigations into incidents involving the police and independently review the way the police handle complaints from the public.

Our aim is to secure public confidence in policing in Scotland by supporting continuous improvement and promoting positive change.

The Police Investigation & Review Commissioner is currently seeking to recruit a Communications Officer to join her team in Hamilton.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to work in a fast paced environment with a growing, progressive organisation.

As a Communications Officer reporting to the Head of Communications, you will assist in the planning and delivery of the communications strategy, both internally and externally.

You must be able to demonstrate experience of the following specific duties (see candidate information pack for full details):

  • To draft and distribute press releases and respond to enquiries from the media during the working day and out of hours;
  • To provide media support, when necessary, to staff in the Investigation, Review and Corporate teams;
  • To develop and promote the work of the PIRC using digital media;
  • To develop and update content for the PIRC website.

Successful candidates should have a good general education with a qualification in communications or marketing and proven experience working within a communications environment in a similar role. The successful candidate must also have proven experience of delivering a range of high quality communications materials, including website, reports and in-house newsletters. You will be required to be on-call, on a rota basis, and be prepared to work unsocial and extended hours where required. An additional remuneration allowance is payable for this work.

STATUS - Fixed Term - 18 month initially
HOURS OF WORK - Part Time (15 hours) with on-call duty on a rota basis
