The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the independent regulator for pharmacy in Great Britain. It’s our remit to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of people who use pharmacy services, by upholding standards and by maintaining public trust in these services in England, Scotland and Wales.

We’re currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who will be involved in various aspects of our media, public affairs and digital work at the GPhC.

Reporting to the Media & Public Affairs Manager, you’ll be responsible for developing regular news updates for both GPhC staff and council members, as well as supporting colleagues in providing timely responses to inquiries from journalists. You’ll also be responsible for monitoring relevant parliamentary and media activities and will be expected to contribute to public affairs research work linked to parliamentary debates and to our meetings with ministers and parliamentarians. You’ll also be closely involved in the implementation of our digital media strategy, including handling our Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn account.

We’re looking for someone who has relevant experience of working in a busy media and/or public affairs environment, and who has first-hand experience of how media processes and the UK political system works. You’ll also need to demonstrate real precision in your writing as you’ll be expected to summarise publications and debates on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will also be very comfortable and proactive in using social media to help us get our message across to patients, registrants and other stakeholders. Sound interpersonal skills are of course essential.

In return, you can expect a very rewarding work environment plus a benefits package that includes 30 days’ holiday (excluding bank holidays), an interest-free season ticket loan and eligibility to join the NHS Pension Scheme (after completion of three months’ service).
