Community Engagement and Public Affairs Advisor for a private sector organisation in the renewable industry with offices in London and the South-West.

Role description

Community Engagement and Public Affairs Advisor will have the following responsibilities:

  • Locally supporting the development process for new projects across the UK - working mostly with their planning team and professional advisers;
  • Communication with local stakeholders incl. public exhibitions/presentations;
  • Project blogs;
  • Liaison with local press and media incl. copy writing;
  • Liaison with local decision makers (Councillors, MPs);
  • Working with partner organisations to allow residents to invest in projects;
  • Nationally (working with company's Managing Directors and professional advisers);
  • Follow policy environment (renewable energy incentives, planning law) and establish relationships with key stakeholders at DECC, Defra, DCLG (officials and politicians);
  • National positioning of their business.

Who we're looking for

  • Community Engagement and Public Affairs Advisor will have some of the following skills/attributes:
  • Work experience in one of the relevant Departments or at local government level;
  • Experience with community engagement, public relations or public affairs;
  • Knowledge and an interest in (Local) journalism.

Experience in public sector and similar roles in PR/communications would be a plus. The role is best suited to a self-guided and entrepreneurial individual. A degree in PPE, broadcasting, or planning qualifications would be a plus. The role is more about a generalist personality, empathy, the ability to understand complex and multi-dimensional issues and address them in plain English.
