Are you an experienced policy, public affairs or communications specialist with a passion for walking? Would you like to lead the policy, communications and campaigns team of a well-respected and dynamic national charity?

Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking, is looking for a Director of Policy and Communications. We are an energetic and growing organisation, with a proud history dating back to 1929. We want to make walking the natural choice for short everyday journeys and create a better walking environment.

Millions of people have rediscovered walking during the recent lockdown and governments across the UK have prioritised active travel. But the pandemic has also revealed that too many streets are not fit for purpose, the stark inequalities faced in local communities and the loneliness experienced by older adults.

We are making our voice heard across the country to address these issues; from campaigning to cut clutter on pavements across the country and pressing for bans on pavement parking in all of Britain’s nations, to pushing for reallocation of space for walking and changes to the Highway Code to put walking first.

With our thousands of supporters, we campaign for better public policies. We lead National Walking Month in May. Our ground-breaking projects achieve real change. Our walk to school challenge reaches children in over 3,500 schools. We also provide expert advice to local authorities and businesses to help improve streets and public spaces.

If you are an enthusiastic and motivated leader with the right skills and would like to join us, we would love to hear from you.
