Oil & Gas UK is the leading representative body for the UK offshore oil and gas industry with offices in London and Aberdeen. It is a not-for-profit organisation, established in April 2007 but with a pedigree stretching back over 40 years. Its vision is to ensure that the UK Continental Shelf becomes the most attractive mature oil and gas province in the world with which to do business.  Its mission is to promote and serve members’ interests as the voice of the UK’s oil and gas industry.

We seek an exceptional public affairs professional to fulfil the role of External Affairs Adviser in our London office, reporting to the External Affairs Manager as a key member of the organisation’s Stakeholder and Communications team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across the organisation and take an active role in developing and delivering policy in key areas in both a proactive and responsive manner to stakeholders in local, regional, and national spectrums, taking a particular lead on Westminster and EU stakeholders and providing support to a Westminster APPG.

The successful candidate will match this output with close monitoring and responses to political developments pertinent to the industry, particularly in Westminster & Brussels and monitor Brexit developments and support the organisation’s management of Brexit as issues arise.

Candidates should have a degree from a recognised university (minimum 2.1) and have solid government public affairs experience with a proven track record of successful advocacy. Current contact with relevant officials, government agency officials and policymakers would be an advantage along with a solid and demonstrable understanding of the workings of government and the parliamentary procedure with good political nous.

All candidates should have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, strong interpersonal skills and be an effective team player and networker. They must also be able to think clearly, critically and decisively and be able to provide strong analytical insight.

This is an exciting role in a high-profile organisation at the heart of one of the country’s most important industrial sectors. An understanding of energy issues in general and the oil and gas industry in particular is desirable but not essential. You must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in the industry, as well as the capacity to cope under pressure and to deadline. In return for hard work and commitment, the organisation offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.
