Electus are exclusively working on an exciting position with a leading representative organisation who are seeking an External Affairs Manager. The organisation's members are responsible for managing a thriving sector that makes a major positive impact on the UK economy. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will have a great opportunity to influence, innovate and implement the political relations and communications work for the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • To lead the organisation's political relations work and the development and dissemination of policy positions, built on research and evidence from the industry;
  • To ensure that the organisation communicates its policy positions and campaigns effectively to both political and trade press organisations;
  • To liaise with and build strong working relationships with the rest of the internal team, the members and other external bodies;
  • Integrate the policy, media and political relations aspects of the organisation's work in order to create a succinct message and narrative;
  • Together with policy experts, analyse policy developments within the UK Government, Westminster and other public bodies. Assess opportunities to promote the organisation;
  • Proactively identify and lead the development of public affairs campaigns, providing planning for policy and campaigns work;
  • Manage an external media relations consultant.

Experience

  • Liaising with external bodies and the ability to build and manage internal and external relationships;
  • Team working and excellent networking skills;
  • Excellent oral communication skills and the proven ability to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders in innovative ways;
  • Excellent organisational skills and a systematic and ordered approach to work;
  • Experience of working on a variety of successful campaigns demonstrating the linkage of policy, media, social media and public affairs;
  • Knowledge and understanding of policy development and legislation within UK Government;
  • Strong analytical approach and a demonstrated ability to analysis complex and varied material;
  • An understanding of the issues facing a member-led organisation.
