The London Assembly holds the Mayor to account for his £17 billion annual budget by publicly examining his policies and programmes. Its 25 elected Assembly Members are champions for London. They review and investigate issues that affect everyday life, working to improve the running of the city in areas such as policing, transport, housing and planning, the economy, health and the environment.

As part of the London Assembly’s Scrutiny Team you will ensure we maximise the impact of our work through effective impact strategies and external relations activities. We’ll look to you to help us devise and implement innovative, targeted external relations plans for a range of projects – making sure we achieve our goals of holding the Mayor to account and representing the views of Londoners.

Working closely with the External Relations Manager, Assembly Members and colleagues, you’ll develop and deliver a broad range of impact strategies –drawing on a range of communications channels from events, speeches and press articles, to online and social media. With a focus on the opportunities offered by digital engagement, you will also provide a media service for the four-yearly GLA elections. What’s more, you’ll respond to media enquiries and coordinate interview requests. Throughout it all, you’ll take a rigorous approach, carrying out mapping and analyses to ensure our publications reach the right stakeholders and that we learn from what works.

A good understanding of London and the issues facing it as a major world city is important. Experience of working on a broad range of external relations strategies, initiatives and techniques is essential. In particular, you'll have a strong grasp of how organisations can increase their influence on policy issues that matter to them, and how different media can be used to promote strategic priorities. An excellent communicator, both in person and in writing, you’ll also be capable of forging professional relationships and measuring and recording the impact of your activities.

If you feel you have what it takes and can demonstrate proven planning, influencing and problem solving skills, we’d like to hear from you.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan, childcare voucher scheme and a career average pension scheme.
