Job Description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the Head of External Affairs for the Association for Project Management.
You will:
- Develop APM's influencing and public affairs strategy and take a lead on reinforcing APM's role as the 'voice' of the project management profession and a valuable source of leadership;
- Have responsibility for developing APM's external profile and building significant relationships with policy makers and other key stakeholders;
- Raise the profile, credibility & influence of the APM with key individuals & audiences across the public, private & voluntary sectors (including other professional bodies) and within government;
- Ensure the APM has the opportunity to shape & influence relevant debates across the Project Management profession, at the appropriate level and on pertinent topics;
- Act as a spokesperson and represent the APM, or arrange representation of APM, in media interviews and at industry events, policy forums and influential meetings across the public, private & voluntary sectors, ensuring that APM promotes a consistent message across all of its representatives;
- Develop APM's methods and tools for influencing and play an active role in the design and delivery of research, training, advice and advocacy projects;
- Working in conjunction with CEO, develop and manage beneficial relationships with other professional bodies;
- Develop and maintain appropriate working relationships with Ministers, MPs and Civil Servants of relevance to the profession;
- Work in conjunction with the CEO and Head of Marketing & Communications to shape the APM as the Voice of the Profession, ensuring consistent messages are delivered at all times.
The Successful Applicant
You will need:
- A good track record of stakeholder management at senior levels across the public, private and voluntary sectors;
- Demonstrable ability in building business and strategically rewarding partnerships;
- Credibility with the profession and with stakeholders;
- Knowledge and understanding of policy development and legislation within UK government, good political understanding and contacts;
- Business and financial acumen;
- Ability to conduct executive level presentations and facilitate group discussions;
- Proven negotiation and persuasion skills;
- Exemplary influencing skills at all levels of an organisation with the ability to maintain and extend stakeholder and customer relationships and to analyse and provide advice on complex issues;
- Excellent time management and attention to detail;
- Outstanding communication skills, both in terms of written and oral work, with experience of communicating effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
