If you are proactive, innovative and have the capacity to challenge conventional thinking, then consider joining the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) for a role that is quite unique. Responsible for protecting the environment, securing the ongoing success of the rural economy and supporting our farming and fishing industries, Defra is one of the Government’s busiest departments. We are currently going through an exciting period of transformation as the UK negotiates its exit from the European Union – a process which will ultimately impact on over a thousand pieces of policy. As such, Defra is seeking dynamic individuals with previous policy and process-design experience to work directly with Ministers and help us make changes that will directly impact on the UK.

Working at one of the highest levels in Government, you will be entrusted with re-thinking our environmental regulations and developing a coherent domestic agricultural policy – two key EU exit issues. To thrive in this team, you will therefore have a comprehensive knowledge of the farming or agricultural sectors, be well-respected in the field and have the ability to work collaboratively. You will also need good verbal and written communication skills, as you be tasked with solving strategic problems and you will work with colleagues to develop policy approaches that progress our agenda. So if you’re ready to be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity in which we have the scope to formulate a Green EU exit, then get in touch to discuss how we could work together.

Two-year fixed term appointment (with potential for extension/permanency).
