Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

As a Policy Adviser with our client you will enjoy a varied and intellectually stimulating range of work, working alongside and supporting teams of policy professionals, up to Director level. There will be some engagement with senior business leaders to develop policy, building relations with Government officials and politicians in Westminster, as well as communicating members’ views to a wide range of external audiences on public platforms and through the media.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and analysis of public policy;
  • Drafting of papers, policy briefs and responses;
  • Supporting the policy team and Director where required;
  • Influencing policy decisions by lobbying UK MPs, civil servants and EU institutions;
  • Representing the membership body at conferences, external meetings and possibly through the media;
  • Discussion with members individually and at committee meetings;
  • Responding to members’ queries;
  • Writing articles for membership updates;
  • Offering support on project work.

Necessary Skills and Experience:

  • Work experience of an internship in a similar role;
  • Achieved or due to achieve a 2:1 at degree level or equivalent;
  • A masters degree in a public policy related field (e.g. economics, politics) is desirable;
  • Keen interest in general public policy;
  • Understanding of the workings of business;
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication;
  • Persuasive influencing skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Tact and diplomacy;
  • Organisational skills;
  • IT literacy.
