Do you have significant experience of working in a health policy/public affairs/strategic communications role, some of which has been gained at management level? Then consider a move to the Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP(UK)) at the Royal College of Surgeons.

The primary role of the FGDP is to promote and advance the highest standards of care for patients within dentistry - and it’s here that we need your policy development and public affairs expertise.

Join us as Policy and Public Affairs Manager and you will:

  • Manage policy development and public affairs activities that will ensure the Faculty’s ability to influence and inform policy and decision-making in primary care dentistry;
  • Advise on, and manage, strategy in the areas of stakeholder relations, policy development and public and media relations;
  • Identify key areas for the development of FGDP (UK) policy and work with internal and external stakeholders to establish a Faculty position;
  • Manage and draft statements and responses to consultations and reviews; attend conferences; organise ad hoc policy events and provide professional guidance;
  • Build and manage effective strategic alliances with interested parties and individuals and manage our public and media relations activities.

You’ll need:

  • A degree level education and relevant experience that includes working with or within a media relations team and managing high level committees/working parties;
  • A good understanding of the workings of Parliament and Government and the ability to recognise, influence and manage the communications and PR consequences of sensitive issues;
  • A proven ability to research, develop and draft documents reports and policy statements and influence a wide range of stakeholders at all levels;
  • Project management and IT skills and keen attention to detail;
  • A self-motivated and adaptable approach, ‘can-do’ attitude and lots of tact, diplomacy and political awareness.
