Forming relationships with key government, executive agencies and major stakeholders relevant to policy areas in land, property and construction.
Managing innovative projects on UK policy issues to demonstrate and promote RICS’ thought leadership.
Key Achievements & Responsibilities
DIMENSIONS
- Organise and deliver the Northern Irish aspects of national policy projects;
- Help develop, and where required, lead RICS’ policy statements;
- Working in partnership with members and professionally qualified colleagues to proactively develop high quality, relevant and timely policy events, positions and papers;
- Administering and managing member policy events and groups in the regions;
- Carry out a programme of efficient and effective policy monitoring, and respond/take action;
- Undertake research for briefings and proactive policy development/initiatives on key issues and subject areas, legislation, and political context for both external and internal audience.
KEY RESULT AREAS
- Work with other policy staff around the UK across identified policy priorities;
- Work closely with internal regional stakeholders to ensure that policy development is properly informed and communicated to all audiences;
- Work regional member networks to assist policy formulation and to deliver member satisfaction;
- Identifying and building relations with key policy contacts within Government and other relevant groups, within an agreed framework;
- Working closely with the Brussels-based Policy and Public Affairs team;
- Leading on responses to major policy events;
- Representing RICS at high level external meetings;
- Acting as a media spokesperson within an agreed framework.
Experience Required Essential
- Strong diplomacy and engagement skills;
- First class written and spoken English;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Effective presentation and representation skills using a variety of channels;
- Ability to juggle competing priorities; ability to 'horizon scan' and recognise opportunities;
- Self-starter, able to work with enthusiasm under own initiative to agreed outcomes;
- Strong demonstrable analytical and research skills;
- Understanding of the political and policy making process in the NI Executive, Westminster, Whitehall and Brussels;
- Ability to work as part of a team;
- Good organisational skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
- Experience of developing and managing events;
- Experience of representing an organisation as a high level stakeholder in various boards, working groups, etc.;
- Sound knowledge of land, property, construction and infrastructure issues;
- UK Full Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.

- Media training (will otherwise be provided);
- Experience of engaging with political parties in Northern Ireland.
