The Bar Standards Board (BSB) regulates barristers called to the Bar in England and Wales in the public interest. Our mission is to regulate the Bar so as to promote high standards of practice and safeguard clients. We are responsible for setting standards, quality assurance, education and training, monitoring equality & diversity, and handling complaints. Barristers work at the heart of our justice system so BSB’s mission is fundamentally important to the maintenance of the rule of law. It is an exciting time at the organisation as we are well on our way to becoming a modern and efficient regulator, changing how we work and adopting best practice in the field.

In this role you will be responsible for developing the outcomes that we expect from those who qualify to practise at the Bar, both at initial registration and post-qualification. You will help to ensure that the standards we adopt are informed by risks in the market and are properly quality assured by the regulator.

You will have an understanding of the role of a regulator in setting standards and ensuring that they are adhered to, with direct experience of developing standards in an educational, regulatory or similar environment.

In return the Bar Standards Board offers excellent terms and conditions of employment, including:

  • Up to 31 days annual leave;
  • Up to 14% employer’s pension contribution;
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay;
  • Life cover, and more.
