A leading business lobby are currently seeking a Principal Policy Adviser to lead policy development and influencing on financial services sector policy concerns. Topical areas within this portfolio will include EU exit negotiations, the regulatory environment, and financial services as an enabler of economic growth, and the competitiveness of the UK’s financial services industry.

A highly visible role, both internally and externally, the Principal Policy Adviser will be the financial services lead and take responsibility for defining projects, tasks and resource allocation within the team whilst co-developing team work-plans alongside the Sector Head. Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a point of contact for members on financial services sector issues and ensuring positions accurately reflect member views;
  • Lobbying Government on key priorities and occasional media work;
  • Managing the team budget and contributing to achieving the Directorate’s commercial targets.

Required knowledge, skills and experience

  • A strong academic background to degree-level or equivalent;
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of policy and public affairs work on financial services sector issues (from central government, financial firm, trade association, regulator etc.);
  • Broad political & Whitehall experience; knowledge of Brussels & the EU;
  • A wish to move into line management and evidence of having thought about the challenges this would bring, including team building, coaching / mentoring, resource allocation and budgeting;
  • Experience of dealing with the media preferred.

This is a high profile role within a respected and highly influential organisation.
