Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

This high profile role focuses on developing and communicating our key engineering policy messages to the Scottish Government and the Northern Ireland Executive, ensuring the expertise of our membership is delivered to key stakeholders.

The role will also lead on Health and Safety issues, spanning policy development to delivery and maintaining the IET’s position on the biological effects of mobile phones on health.

Reporting to the Head of Policy, with the support of senior IET Fellows and staff, you will be one of 5 subject specialists who utilise the expertise of the membership to formulate and promote the IET’s position on topical issues.

A strong communicator, you will be expected to represent the IET on external groups and to take a pro-active approach to your work - from arranging Parliamentary meetings to producing and publicising insightful reports and briefings. Providing comment and advice on a variety of issues is a key part of the IET’s strategy and you will work closely with our media team. You will also work with relevant IET committees, boards and steering groups to develop the IET’s thought leading activities.

With an engineering or social/political science background and experience in policy and public affairs, you will use your excellent interpersonal skills to establish creditability at senior level.

The ability to analyse and assimilate complex information is essential, as are the skills to communicate and summarise verbally or through written reports.
