The role is based at Barnardo's Head Office, Barkingside (Greater London) with hot desk facilities at Euston.

Bring your parliamentary lobbying experience to the UK’s largest children’s charity. Shape and deliver public engagement campaigns that forge positive change. Play your part in helping us support children and young people to enjoy brighter, happier futures.

At Barnardo’s, we believe in children. Our purpose is to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children and our vision is to realise Thomas Barnardo’s dream of a world where no child is turned away from the help that they need. Making that happen means influencing thinking at the highest level. It means effecting positive change in external policy, practice and legislation. And it means engaging the public as we drive the wellbeing of children, young people and their families to the top of the agenda.

Now we need you to achieve all of that as you take on this high-profile role. It’s a wide-ranging brief that will see you lead Barnardo’s public affairs and campaigns work, co-ordinate Westminster parliamentary activities and oversee our efforts to influence decision-makers across England. In addition, you will research and write policy speeches for senior management, lead a small team and ensure that all activities are in line with legal and charitable guidelines.

With sound experience of lobbying in Westminster, you’ll bring a solid understanding of the legislative process, parliamentary procedures, government structures and policy-making. Excellent speechwriting, negotiation and time management skills are also essential, along with the ability to maximise opportunities to effect change within the political environment using a wide range of public affairs and campaign strategies.
