The Nuffield Council on Bioethics has achieved an international reputation as an independent body advising policy makers and stimulating debate in the interesting and important field of bioethics. It has an influential voice, playing a central role in debates on subjects as diverse as genome editing, health data and non-invasive prenatal testing. We are keen to develop this influence further, both in the UK and internationally and are looking to recruit a Public Affairs Manager to help develop the Council’s profile.

This role will be responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of the Council’s public affairs, liaising closely with communication and policy colleagues. The post holder will develop and implement strategies and initiatives for raising awareness of the Council’s work among Parliamentarians and policy makers. This includes raising awareness of the Council as an organisation, its work, including policy recommendations, and opening up opportunities for the Council to join in and influence debate.

We are looking for an individual with substantial experience in public affairs work with an excellent understanding of the political climate. Candidates should have the ability to engage and enthuse others in the work of the Council, and have a proven ability to develop strategic relationships and partnerships.

The post is offered as a 2 year fixed term contract in the first instance (with the possibility of further renewal), on a part-time basis, working 14 hours per week. We are happy to consider flexibility in when the hours are worked and would be open to an approach where the commitment is over a period of time rather than set weekly hours.
