The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) was established in May 2011. It brings together Network Rail and passenger and freight train operating companies to lead and enable improvements in the railway. The purpose of the RDG is to enable Network Rail and passenger and freight train operating companies to succeed by delivering better services for their customers. Ultimately this benefits taxpayers and the economy.

We are seeking a dynamic Public Affairs Manager to build and strengthen support for rail amongst political decision-makers and influencers. Our industry attracts considerable political and public interest, so you will need to be determined and a strong advocate for the railway in Britain and the benefits delivered for passengers and freight customers, for taxpayers and the wider economy.

You will help to devise and implement public affairs strategies and manage campaigns that deliver RDG’s objectives. You will demonstrate significant experience of successful engagement with stakeholders in government, Parliament, the civil service, the business community and the rail industry, with a strong track record of results.

You will work with RDG members and collaborate with third parties in the industry and beyond to develop and communicate credible policy positions. You will communicate effectively in writing and in person, and bring a highly professional approach to your work, inspiring confidence with our senior team, stakeholders and our members.

The ideal person will be:

Professionally qualified with a relevant degree or other qualification and with demonstrable experience in public affairs roles either in-house or within agencies, particularly within the transport sector.

It is essential you are able to demonstrate experience or competence of:

  • Strong understanding of the parliamentary and political process;
  • Good understanding of wider campaign strategies;
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with opinion-formers and decision-makers from across the political spectrum;
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to devise and manage effective public affairs campaigns;
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Good analytical and research skills, and the ability to manage own workload and prioritise work to meet challenging deadlines;
  • Enthusiasm, creativity and organisational ability.
