Are you an experienced Public Affairs professional with a passion for dogs? This could be the perfect role for you.
Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK with a nationwide network of rehoming centres and charity shops. Last year, Dogs Trust centres cared for over 15,000 dogs; we never put a healthy dog down.
The Public Affairs team works across Westminster, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the EU, to ensure the health and welfare of dogs is always taken into consideration by policy makers. In addition to our direct political engagement, we chair the Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG) which aims to combat growing concerns regarding the irresponsible advertising of pets for sale, rehoming, and exchange. We also provide the secretariat for the EU Dog & Cat Alliance, through which we engage with EU policy makers, and call for EU action to build a better Europe for dogs and cats.
The Public Affairs Officer role supports the delivery of our ambitious public affairs programme across Westminster and Whitehall, the devolved administrations and in the EU. This role also supports the management running of the Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG) and the EU Dog & Cat Alliance, both of which Dogs Trust provides the secretariat for, as well as supporting our wider UK public affairs work.
The post holder must have experience in public/parliamentary affairs and an understanding of the political landscape in the UK. They must be able to travel to meetings and events across the UK as required, often overnight, and be willing to work outside regular business hours. Occasional travel in the EU may also be required. An interest and sympathy for the aims of Dogs Trust is essential and the post holder must be comfortable around dogs.
Please note that in this role you will split time between home-working and our London office in line with our agile working policy. Manual driving licence will be required.
