Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

The successful candidate will be a key member of our market-leading public affairs practice, working closely with our senior leadership team and directing some of our flagship accounts in the FS sector.

We’re a fast-growing, 30-strong team of political specialists who advise some of the world’s biggest brands on political strategy and regulatory issues.

The successful candidate will have a sharp eye for good public affairs strategies, an ability to think laterally and a nuanced understanding of the relationship between business and politics.

You will also have the opportunity to play a central role in commercial and people management, with direct oversight of budgets and line management of junior colleagues.

We’re particularly keen to hear from candidates with prior agency or in-house experience in Financial Services.

You will be based at our London office but may have an opportunity to work on the clients we share with colleagues in Brussels, Dublin, Abu Dhabi and Dubai and across our wider network within the AVENIR GLOBAL group in Canada and the USA.

Primary responsibilities

  • Build close relationships with senior clients and shape effective public affairs programmes;
  • Direct account teams, overseeing consultants to deliver on project KPIs and grow accounts;
  • Support the development and delivery of the Advocacy team business plan, working closely with the senior leadership team;
  • Contribute to team and wider company management by overseeing budgets and efficient account management, line managing colleagues and supporting day-to-day team management challenges;
  • Lead new business pitch teams and identify opportunities to cross-sell services between Hanover teams and offices;
  • Expand your personal network and build an external profile as a public affairs leader.

Skills and experience

  • Ambition to deploy and develop business leadership capabilities;
  • Very strong team-working, collaboration and interpersonal skills;
  • Prior experience within a consultancy, in-house team or government department;
  • Policy background in one or a mix of the sectors specified above;
  • Excellent knowledge of and a passion for UK politics, with a demonstrable understanding of its impact on business objectives;
  • An existing network of either/or business, policy or political contacts;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
