Job Summary

Dearman is looking to appoint a Senior Associate to play a central role in delivering its public affairs and campaigns activity, fitting into the wider commercial and communications strategy.

Dearman has an exciting story to tell. It is developing ground breaking technology, which will have a positive impact upon the environment, while helping customers to save money enabling them to operate more efficiently. We are looking for an able and enthusiastic public affairs professional to help us tell that story to key stakeholders and to help to build a regulatory framework that benefits the roll out of Dearman technology.

It is a dynamic position in an ambitious organisation, which requires creativity and initiative to build relationships and influence at all levels of governance.

A key focus of this role will be on the European institutions, as well as key European markets more widely. We are looking for an individual who has experience in working within the EU institutions, and who can manage a cross section of projects both within the UK and in the EU.

The role will include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with a range of stakeholders from politics, policy, NGOs, think tanks and academia;
  • Identifying opportunities to influence policy at each level of governance, with a special focus on the EU;
  • Working closely with colleagues from the communications team to assist with building awareness and promoting the technology and the need for clean cold globally;
  • Monitoring policy and preparing briefing material for senior colleagues on issues relevant Dearman;
  • Representing Dearman at conferences and events as required;
  • Identifying grant funding opportunities and liaising across relevant departments to assist in delivering successful bid proposals;
  • The successful applicant will also act as a lead on projects as agreed with your Line Manager and other public affairs and campaigns activities that deliver business objectives.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

Education and Experience

  • You will have relevant work experience in a public affairs, campaigns or policy environment with some policy knowledge of the energy, engineering or technology sector;
  • You can demonstrate that you have developed and delivered engaging and successful public affairs programmes or campaigns;
  • You will have experience of working with the European Institutions and/or another member state other than the UK in a related role;
  • Additional languages valuable, but not essential Public Affairs and Communication;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Proven writing ability, including writing clear briefings, consultation responses and correspondence;
  • Ability to increase impact and develop innovative ways to communicate core messages, both externally and internally;
  • Understanding of the need for creativity in delivering successful public affairs and campaigns strategies;
  • Confidence working with a broad spectrum of individuals in both formal and informal settings;
  • Excellent influencing skills, with experience of building relationships with a range of internal and external partners;
  • Some knowledge of UK and/or EU grant funding bids would be desirable but not essential.

  • Ability to work on your own initiative and generate ideas to improve performance and outcomes of communications activities;
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload with competing deadlines;
  • Strong planning, project management, organisational and administrative skills;
