A well respected membership body is looking for a Senior Policy Advisor (Energy) with an understanding of UK energy policy.
Job Description
- To manage and support the Energy Policy Panel;
- To prepare submissions on matters of concern and its members for Government and other decision-making bodies, as part of public consultations or otherwise;
- To produce and maintain technical fact sheets and guidance to members and the public and prepare technical reports for publication as directed by the Manager Policy Department;
- To prepare reports to members, parliament, Government and the media to inform, influence and advise on significant issues of current importance;
- To arrange parliamentary briefings and meetings;
- To ensure the currency of the Departmental web pages relevant to the above items;
- To engage with key stakeholders, including parliamentarians and civil servants on energy policy issues;
- To liaise with other departments relevant to the topic area, ensuring that the organisation is seen as a thought leader;
- To undertake any other duties and projects at the request of the Manager Policy Department;
- To be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the organisation and to attend mandatory updates where required;
- To comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties.
The Successful Applicant
Essential Criteria:
- Educated to degree level in Engineering or Social/Political Science, together with a broad interest in engineering and science;
- Understanding of UK energy policy;
- Experience of policy formation and/or public affairs work including informing and influencing MPs, Ministers and Civil Servants;
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to assimilate complex information quickly and produce written papers to a high standard of presentation and argument;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish credibility with senior personnel from industry, academe and government;
- Previous experience developing and managing collaborative partnerships.
Desirable:
- Understanding of the UK electricity industry;
- To have experience of managing projects.
