The Falkland Islands Government is looking to recruit a Senior Public Policy Advisor. The successful candidate will coordinate the work of the Policy Unit and play a key role in shaping and advocating domestic policies for the Falkland Islands. The post itself will be based in our Policy and Economic Directorate, which is responsible for providing advice and analysis in a diverse range of areas including, but not limited to, education, healthcare, labour force and immigration, environmental protection, resource development, taxes, housing and infrastructure.

THE PERSON

Applicants for this post will be educated to first degree level in a relevant subject area, (e.g. political science, economics, public policy, social science, law, etc.) and have significant directly relevant experience in public policy work, ideally within a public sector organisation.

The ability to manage and prioritise a challenging and varied portfolio of work, meet tight deadlines and work effectively with a wide range of client departments, government leaders and stakeholders is essential in this role. An understanding of social and economic issues affecting the Falkland Islands and of policy development in both local and national contexts would be desirable, as would a background which demonstrates policy innovation, a client-focused approach and the use of collaborative and inclusive policy development techniques. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a small team environment.

THE PACKAGE

The appointment will be for a two-year fixed term initially, with option for extension by mutual agreement. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include substantially lower taxes than the UK, eligibility for a 25% gratuity upon satisfactory completion of the contract, a relocation grant and a yearly flight package to the country of recruitment for successful applicant and any qualifying family members who accompany them to post.
