An exciting new role within Transport for London’s (TfL) Campaigns and Stakeholder Engagement team, with responsibility for communicating the work of our Commercial Development (CD) team.

As well as being a transport authority, we also own retail units, advertising space and around 5,700 acres of land across the Capital. So in addition to being responsible for more than 30 million journeys every day, we are one of London’s largest landowners. The expanding Commercial Development team is looking at ambitious and creative ways to make the most of our commercial estate so we can increase the level of income we receive from our assets. With a clear financial goal and a growing project list, the Commercial Development team need a visionary and experienced communications specialist to shape the way we talk about this element of our organisation.

The Campaigns and Stakeholder Engagement team looks after TfL’s relationships with a wide range of stakeholders that speak for our customers and users including business, industry bodies, passenger representatives, statutory watchdogs, consumer groups, think tanks and the charity sector including accessibility, older people, youth and transport campaigning organisations. We use insight gained from our external conversations to guide and advise decision-makers within the organisation, building trust and helping our messages resonate with our audiences.

Overview:

The role is responsible for designing and executing the implementation of the CD Directorate’s communications and engagement strategy, to support the delivery of CD's Business Plan revenue targets. Direct and coordinate all internal and external communications to ensure that CD engages effectively with all of its key stakeholders, drawing on and managing specialist expertise in internal and external communications, utilising both TfL Group Communications resource and specialist agencies as required.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead and define the Commercial Development Directorate (CD) communications strategy, in line with corporate strategies (including but not limited to objectives, audience, messaging, language and channels) to increase audience understanding, mitigate risk and maximise advocacy, facilitating the delivery of CD Business Plan revenue targets;
  • Ensure communications and engagement on all CD projects (short, medium and long-term) is aligned with the overall strategy;
  • Manage and lead a small team and virtual teams of communication specialists from inside and outside the organisation to deliver the overarching CD Communications Strategy and line manage the delivery of project specific communications.

Experience required:

  • Experience of identifying key stakeholder relationships and putting in place relevant strategies to manage these relationships to deliver defined strategy and targets;
  • Significant experience of defining a communications strategy and plan for internal and external stakeholders, and working with relevant professionals to deliver these plans;
  • Significant experience of leading teams made up of both actual and virtual team members to achieve specific project benefits and outcomes;
  • People and performance management experience, with both directly employed staff and staff on contract/consultancy basis, driving excellence and performance improvement in a challenging, multi-disciplinary environment.
