Since the coalition government's emergency budget in June 2010, which paved the way for fiscal consolidation and deficit reduction, each following budget has set out more robust mechanisms to reduce the structural deficit whilst ensuring the nation returned to growth.
The Budget in 2014 will be of particular interest as it will fall just over one year away from a general election and will spell out the government's next steps in both public spending and reduction.
With this in mind Policy Knowledge is pleased to present Budget 2014. This event will provide all those who attend with a coherent, in-depth examination of what the Budget actually means. Bringing together leading thinkers from across the business, public, charitable and academic sectors this half day briefing will foster an environment for informed debate and discussion and demystify any issues which arise.
This event will look to address the following themes:
- Strengthening the public spending framework
- Supporting aspiration and social mobility
- Progress made on fiscal consolidation as set out in Budget 2013
- Comparisons with other coalition budgets
- A budget for growth? Implications for local economic growth
- Impact on job creation - does it go far enough?
- House building and home ownership
- The cost of living
- Public service design and delivery
- What are the alternatives?
