The Road to Independence Day
How to deliver, reinvent and integrate our health and social care?
We want to hear your views on how to change the public's perception of what good or better care looks like.
What does "good" or "better" look like for the public in terms of improved social care?
The Health Select Committee has called for large scale change to be made to how care is provided if we are to meet the needs of the UK's ageing population at a time of increased cost pressures. Sir David Nicholson has also been quick to point out that "the NHS has to adapt to survive". The need to change and to integrate health and social care presents a huge conundrum for policymakers as changes to how our health and social care services are delivered remains "notoriously" controversial and usually unpopular with the public. We will ask "How can we change the public's mindset and appetite for change to the NHS?"
Speakers and Independence Day panellists include:
- Victoria Macdonald, Health Correspondent of Channel 4 News; Phil Hope, Director of Improving Care;
- Kieran Brett, Director of Improving Care;
- Pam Creaven, Director of Services at Age UK;
- Baroness Sally Greengross, Chair of the International Longevity Centre;
- Andrew Hawkins, Chair of ComRes;
- Sir David Nicholson, Chief Executive of NHS England (invited);
- Peter Carter, Chief Executive of Royal College of Nursing (invited).
Independence Day provides the space for bold thinking and bold solutions. We will examine how policy makers can change public perception of our health and care systems and why the public are usually reluctant to embrace new forms of integrated care. We will examine the anxieties of the public in relation to change and how they can be thoroughly addressed.
If you are interested in the future of health and social care, we want to hear from you. The Independence Day series provides you with a unique opportunity to input your views and helps us to shape policy and public thinking on how best to meet the health and social care challenges ahead.
